What does Clarify Car Hire's Top Up Cover Include?
When you go through the process of booking your hire car, you'll notice that we offer you the chance to take an excess insurance package from the car hire company that you're hiring with. However, sometimes additional packages from the car rental firms do not cover everything or you may find their packages are unaffordable compared to independent car hire excess insurance. If you choose to just opt for the standard package when booking the car, we offer you our top up cover but what does this really provide? We explain below.
We have two levels of cover we can offer, one is more comprehensive than the other and we'll start with that one. As we mentioned above, if you go for the Standard Package from the car rental firm we will offer you independent excess insurance. This includes cover for the excess of your hire vehicle (on a reimbursement basis), damage to the tyres, wheels, glass, underbody, roof, loss or damage to the keys, lock out charges, misfuelling, battery failure, curtailment, drop off charges, charges for towing and administration fees. This optional top up cover does include a fairly comprehensive list of potential areas that may be damaged, lost or could lead to charges to give you the peace of mind to hire without worrying about a bill should anything go wrong!
There is a daily charge for this cover so the amount shown will be the total price calculated for the number of days you are hiring. You will be able to see the price as well as the features of the policy and the Summary Terms and Conditions, Insurance Product Information Document and Policy Wording as you go through the booking process, this will all be shown in a box to the right side of the page that will look like the below:
However, if you do opt to take out the car hire company's own excess insurance package, we have another option for you to purchase. There is a limited version of the top up cover which would only cover the additional areas of the vehicle such as the damage to the wheels and tyres, loss or damage to keys, damage to the glass, underbody, roof of the car as well as lock out charges, misfuelling, battery failure, curtailment, drop off charges, towing charges and administration fees.
This is offered at a cheaper daily rate to the full top up cover and importantly will not provide any excess cover, it will only insure the areas mentioned above. It is designed to be used with packages that have zero excess and this policy then gives you a little extra protection. If you need excess cover it would be a case of taking the more comprehensive insurance we mentioned above.
On the image below you can see that you have excess cover regardless of whether you take the optional top up cover as you have excess insurance included in your package from the car hire company and this policy does not provide it. Therefore the top up insurance is just covering those additional areas that are not included in protection from the car hire company.
We hope the above explains a little about what exactly you can expect from the optional top up covers we offer and may help with decision making when it comes to insurance for future bookings! However, if you have any questions do get in touch with our friendly customer service team.
