Car Hire in the Balkans - Discover Romania, Slovenia and Montenegro
Skiing in Bulgaria? Exploring Serbia? We can help you find the right car hire for your visit to the Balkans
Many of the countries in the Balkans – a region named after the Balkan Mountains – have had a troubled history but they have now reinvented themselves, brushed off their past and have much about them that is shiny and new. They are fast becoming popular holiday destinations. This is partly because they are often cheaper than the more well-known tourist spots and partly as they offer such a unique blend of culture and adventure. Clarify Car Hire can now provide vehicles in most of these areas so that you can experience these superb locations to the full.
The city of Dubrovnik in Croatia is already a favourite with visitors but with car hire you could experience much more of Croatia or even take a trip into neighbouring Montenegro. You would need permission from your car hire company to cross a border and there may be a fee for this service but it will open up so much more for you to enjoy.
If you are a lover of castles then you will be in heaven in the Balkans. There are many dotted up high through the hills of Bosnia Herzegovina, and Gothic examples in Dracula’s homeland of Transylvania in Romania. For two of our favourites try Slovenia with Bled Castle overlooking the beautiful Bled Lake (pictured above), and Predjama Castle which is actually built into the mouth of a cave.
The scenery through many of the Balkan nations is spectacular with mountains and hills looming over gorges and lakes. Along with this scenery comes an abundance of wildlife. The Danube delta in Romania, the Palić Nature Park in Serbia and Lake Skadar in Montenegro are three of the best spots for bird and wild creature spotting. There are even bears in Romania!
For beach holidays try Bulgaria’s Sunny Beach which has been voted Europe’s cheapest beach destination several years in a row by the Post Office. Montenegro’s Kotor Bay is an idyllic fjord-like region with some lovely more relaxed beaches to choose from. The Balkans have numerous lakes so, if it’s just water you want, you will be in luck wherever you go.
Thrill-seekers will not be disappointed either. Rivers such as the Drina in Serbia offer rafting and boat trips. There’s canyoning and kayaking in Bovec in Slovenia, and skiing in Bosnia Herzegovina and Bulgaria. What about a waterfall? Well, there’s several to choose from including Jajce at 21 metres high and the double cascade Štrbački Buk both in Bosnia Herzegovina.
Visit Roman ruins in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, or Gamzigrad, Serbia. Stari Most Bridge in Mostar, Bosnia Herzegovina and the 150-metre-high bridge over the Tara Canyon in Montenegro are two of the most stunning bridges in the world. There are monasteries, grottos, canyons, parks, markets and cities. The Balkans has it all. If you want to try somewhere a little different this year, let Clarify Car Hire help you find the right car to take you on your adventure.
