Car Hire in the USA Explained
When you search for car hire in the USA, you may come across some very varied prices and this is often because of the different levels of insurance that are included within the car rental package. It is possible - believe it or not - to hire a car in the USA with no insurance included at all. Finding that out and then trying to find additional insurance to cover the rental can be complicated and expensive. You can discover that what looked like a ‘bargain’ is far from it!
With Clarify Car Hire renting a car in the USA is simple
We include all the main insurances of Collision Damage Waiver, Theft Waiver and $1 million of Liability Insurance with all the car hire packages we offer in the United States.
What do the main insurances cover?
Collision Damage Waiver covers the cost of any damage to the hire car itself. The Theft Waiver covers the cost of the vehicle if it is stolen. Both these elements may have an excess (the first part of any claim) that you are liable for and there can be exclusions to the CDW for areas such as the glass, tyres, wheels, roof and underbody. Liability Insurance is third party insurance and covers damage and injury to other people or their property.
Why do some car hires not include all the main insurances?
It is quite common to find through US companies or websites that cars can be rented without CDW, Theft Protection and no – or a very low level (the State Minimum) of – liability insurance. This is because US renters are able to cover hire cars through their personal insurance or through their credit cards. In three American states (California, Florida and Ohio) it is no longer a legal requirement for car rental firms to provide the State Minimum Liability insurance – the lowest level of liability insurance necessary to legally drive a car.
What else can be included with car rental in the USA through Clarify Car Hire?
When you hire within Europe you are probably used to having a large excess that you are liable for. All the rental packages we currently offer have no excess liability and no - or in some cases just a smaller - security deposit that is taken at the desk when you collect your car. The majority of US car hires booked through Clarify Car Hire also include unlimited mileage which can be very important given the size of the country!
Thrifty, Dollar and Alamo all offer Gold packages which include 3 free additional drivers (over the age of 25) and a full tank of fuel. The Alamo Gold GPS package adds a Satnav in as well.
Here at Clarify Car Hire, our aim is to make the car rental process clear and accessible to all. We are available to help every step of the way from booking to dropping back your vehicle and beyond.
