Our Favourite European Beach Towns
During this heatwave it’s very appealing to think of being sat beside the beach and being able to go for a dip when you get too hot! This week we’ve had serious envy of those on holiday so decided to round up our favourite beach towns across Europe.
Mellieha, Malta
For us, Mellieha ranks very highly! It’s located in the north of Malta and is a hugely popular resort for both locals and tourists, many who frequent here year after year. The town is located at the top of a hill and provides beautiful views overlooking one of Malta’s longest sandy beaches Mellieha Bay. This is a great base to get a feel of village life, experience some great restaurants and be able to kick back on one of the number of beaches within driving distance of Mellieha.
Cascais, Portugal
Cascais is a seaside town situated about 30 minutes west of Lisbon, it is a handy location and allows for day trips to Lisbon should you want a change of scenery! The town itself is really beautiful and has three of its own beaches: Praia da Ribeira, Praia da Rainha and Praia da Conceição. The range of local restaurants is impressive and the food certainly lives up to the classic Portuguese standards, many serve beautiful fresh seafood and fish. You can be sure that you will not go hungry here! Cascais is a great location for a holiday for couples, families or friends as it definitely caters for everyone.
Mojacar, Spain
Mojacar, located in the Almería province of Spain, is a fantastic summer holiday destination. The weather here is consistently good and it has over 320 days of sunshine a year. The area is split between the more traditional village and modern beach area but they work seamlessly together to give you a little taste of everything. For golf fanatics, there are numerous courses close to Mojacar and if part of the group would rather relax, there is the gorgeous town beach. This is a perfect location for families as there is no shortage of restaurants, cafes, bars and the historical sights of Mojacar old town which allows for a little explore.
Cefalú, Sicily
We argue that Cefalú, a town about 60 minutes East of Palermo on the island of Sicily, has the perfect mix for a great beach holiday. Not least due to the beautifully sandy 1.6km long beach that is the perfect spot for sunbathing, paddling, swimming and of course building sandcastles! The Italian hospitality and cuisine makes Cefalú even more appealing. There are many restaurants to suit all tastes and of course some fantastic fresh seafood options. It's proximity to Palermo also make it an easy place to get to with a hire car.
Saint-Jean-de-Luz, France
This stunning coastal town is located in the South-West of France in the Basque Country and is relatively close to the Spanish border. It has a perfectly balanced mix of history, heritage, food and beaches, which provides a wide array of activities with certainly enough to occupy your time for a week if not two. The fishing port is also well worth a visit, it's still a working port and a great place to watch the hustle bustle of the day go by. You will not be short of choice when it comes to food here, there are bars, restaurants and cafés a plenty.
